La Vélidéale
From Lake Vassivière to the port of Saint-Nazaire, the Vélidéale will be offering a unique interlude for lovers of heritage and green tourism from this summer onwards. Criss-crossing six départements, this brand-new cycle route invites visitors to discover the riches of the region, including the Etang de la Pouge, one of the sensitive natural areas of the Haute-Vienne.
From this summer onwards, 638 kilometres of cycle routes will be accessible along the fil of the remarkable biodiversity of the five Regional Nature Parks and the six Petites cités de caractère (small towns of character) that the route passes through. The variety of plant and animal species, the diversity of environments and ecosystems, the uniqueness of local biotopes, the omnipresence of water... all resonate with contemporary environmental challenges, and this immersion in the heart of life is also a crossroads for culture, heritage and know-how. This is an opportunity for the Haute-Vienne to showcase the remarkable biotope of the Etang de la Pouge through its interpretation trail, as well as Limoges, Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat and its Unesco World Heritage-listed collegiate church, and the collections of the Musée départemental d'art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne - Château de Rochechouart.
